Holidays in Mykonos

Gorgeous sandy beaches, pretty postcard-perfect architecture in white and blue, traditional Greek lifestyle and warm islanders, Mykonos is surrounded by crystal blue waters and is all about relaxation in this beautiful setting. Mykonos is part of the famous Cyclades island group in the Aegean Sea. Cyclades (‘circular islands’) are said to be some of the most beautiful islands in the world and according to the Greek mythology, Poseidon (God of the Sea) was furious at the Cyclades nymphs and turned them into islands. Also, according to mythology, Mykonos was formed from the bodies of giants killed by Hercules! Mykonos is the best-known cosmopolitan island in Greece - and aptly named as the jet-setters paradise and playground for the rich & famous. It is adorned with stunning beaches, boutique luxury hotels, amazing private villas and designer shops. There are charming beach tavernas, chic nightclubs and cocktails bars and small traditional restaurants to choose from. For a spot of luxury, head to Paradise or Super Paradise for dinner; or for more casual dinner, Mykonos town offers a good range of wonderful low-key restaurants.

Hora, the capital town, boasts amazing Cycladic architecture with pretty marble streets and whitewashed houses with pastel-coloured doors and shutters. Visit the church of Panayia Paraportiani and the castle located above harbour, the museum or simply take a stroll around the colourful and buzzing shopping streets. Matoyanni Street is the most famous for designer labels and high-end restaurants, whilst the waterfront oozes traditions with pretty-coloured fishing boats. The most famous mascot of Mykonos is Petros the Pelican whom you can find strolling along the waterfront.

Mykonos is known as the island of winds - and it is no surprise that it offers a wonderful array of water sport. The island attracts surfers and sailors from all over the world. Other popular activities are beach volleyball, mini-golf, fishing, sea parachuting and jet skiing. There are many excellent snorkelling and scuba diving centres and the best time for a spot of underwater exploration is in September when the sea is warm and visibility is good.

Kopanisti, a pepper flavoured soft cheese, is Mykonos’ gastronomic trademark. It is served on a round rusk with grated tomato and followed by Louzes (pork filet with spices) and tasty local sausages. Sumptuous honey pie and small almond cakes finish off beautifully your Aegean meal.

Exclusive hotels and villas, pristine beaches and an ambience of glamour mixed with local traditions create a wonderfully serene holiday experience. Mykonos offers something for everyone - families love its quiet and tranquil setting and the exclusivity attracts many of romantic couples and honeymooners.
