Dramatically beautiful, the town of Molyvos (or Mithymna as it was formerly known) is situated on a small mountain topped with a medieval castle, which was built by the Byzantines and renovated by the Gattelusis. This interesting town is located on the northernmost part of Lesvos. The town centre with its stone houses with colourful shutters and narrow streets winding around the pretty houses, Turkish-style fountains and grand mansions offer a traditional insight into the way of life in Lesvos. There’s a picturesque old fishing harbour on one side and an idyllic beach on the other side of the Molyvos town. Awarded a Blue Flag for its cleanliness, the Mykonos town beach has a pebbled beach and a sandy seafloor. The beautiful town and the surrounding green nature create a wonderful backdrop to this lovely, quiet beach. For snorkeling, walk a little further along the rocky coast to find an ideal spot.
