Holidays to Lixouri

Facing east across the bay of Argostoli overlooking the capital, Lixouri is the second largest town in Kefalonia and lies on the southern tip of Paliki peninsula. This small village of 3,000 inhabitants was badly damaged in the 1953 earthquake leaving only a handful of traditional buildings and houses untouched. These pretty pinky-cream coloured houses are now the pride of Lixouri mixing with more modern buildings. In the Lixouri area, there are three absolutely stunning beaches. Lepada, Xi and Mega Lakos are some of the most scenic offering soft sandy beaches, turquoise waters and seclusion. Xi is ideal for families with its shallow waters, water sport centre, slightly orange colour sand and a beach bar. Xi is perhaps the most picturesque beach in Kefalonia with its stunning white rocky hills that surround the beach. The Lepada beach offers 100 metres of red sand with calm waters ideal for swimming and bathing. Mega Lakos is smaller than Xi, and offers similar golden red sand and beautiful views over the bay.

Well-known for its musical talents, Lixouri has one of the oldest and most important orchestras in Greece. Summer concerts are held at the centre square, Plateia Petritsi, which is lined with cafes, bars and restaurants. The waterfront also has a selection of restaurants of different type and quality.
