Chania is Crete’s second largest city and the pretty Chania Bay is blessed with over 20 km of lovely beaches. As Chania is a popular port town, it welcomes a large number of cruise passengers every year to its delightful cafes, bars and shops creating a busy cosmopolitan ambience.
Chania’s new town is full of tempting shops and boutiques. If you can’t find what you are looking for from Chania’s new town, then you probably can’t find anywhere in Crete. The charming old town spreads around the harbour. Full of little cafes, modern bars, lovely artisan shops and a wonderful array of restaurants and tavernas, the old town offers a fantastic insight into Chania’s past with Venetian and Turkish architecture and traditions. Many of the pretty houses have been rebuilt over the years reflecting different epochs and the city is full of amazing historical buildings from Minoan ruins, Venetian houses, Byzantine churches to a 17th century lighthouse and a Turkish minaret.
Enjoy endless stretches of seashore, delightful harbour and be welcomed by friendly locals, Chania is all about traditions mixed with modern amenities. There is a lovely sandy beach about 1 km west from the old town with snack-bars and beach umbrellas ensuring a fun day for the entire family.
